User Extensions 'Ring' Tab

<< back to User Extensions

Ring Tab

The Ring Tab is used to specify what happens when someone dials this user's extension. It has been organized into three sections:

WHEN DIALED - This gives you an opportunity to decide what happens before the phone rings. The default is to just ring the extension, but you also have options to send the call somewhere else (such as a menu, filter, etc) or forward the call to an outside number.

DURING RING - The During Ring section has attributes related specifically to how long you want it to ring, whether call waiting is enabled and also what other extensions you want to simultaneously ring.

AFTER NO ANSWER - This section offers options on what to do when the user does not answer the phone. The default is to send them to voicemail, but we now offer other options such as Follow-Me, send the caller somewhere else (such as a menu, filter, etc) or specify some expert routing options.

We deal with some of these sections in more detail below.

When Dialed Section

Ring Extension (default)

Ring Extension means that you want the extension to ring.

Go Somewhere Else

This allows you to specify a different destination for this call, such as a menu. When you select a sound file to go with it, it should say something like "The representative you are trying to reach is not available. Please press # now to leave a message or hold for another representative." This option will wait a few moments for the user to press # before sending them to the next destination.

Forward

Forward bypasses the user extension and forwards all calls directly to a specified destination number. The call leaves the webFones PBX system and subsequent services, such as voicemail must be handled by the destination device.

During Ring Section

Here are a list of the settings under the During Ring section:

Call Waiting

Call Waiting allows multiple calls to ring through to an extension at the same time. If the user is on a single-line device, call waiting plays a tone to let the user know there is an inbound call. A multiple-line device may display the incoming call on a different line and enable the call to be answered by pressing that extension button.

Rings Before Answer

Users can use the drop-down menu to select the number of times they want their phone to ring before the call is sent to voicemail or to other phones.

** Simultaneous Ring**

Extensions can be set up to ring simultaneous phone devices so that a colleague or assistant can answer a phone when the user is unavailable. Activating this feature does not impact existing Call Queues and Ring Groups set up in Call Menus. (See Menus).

Press one of the Ring Extension buttons and enter either the extension number or the first few letters of the user extension name. A pop-up pick list will appear. Make a selection and press the Save button.

After No Answer Section

Voicemail

Rings the user extension for the specified number of rings and then is sent to voicemail, if voicemail is enabled.

Follow-Me

Rings the user extension for the specified number of rings and then plays on-hold music, while dialing up to six other phone numbers to find you. If you don’t answer and accept the call, the caller is sent to voicemail.

Go Somewhere Else

This allows you to specify an alternate place for this caller to go, such as a menu. When you select a sound file to go with it, it should say something like "The representative you are trying to reach is not available. Please press # now to leave a message or hold for another representative." This option will wait a few moments for the user to press # before sending them to the next destination.

Expert

Determines how you want calls to be directed when you are on the phone or when you don’t answer.
